The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Wednesday gave the real reasons the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, and its leader Cheif Ayo Adebanjo are supporting his presidential bid.
Omadaily reports that Obi on Wednesday at the party’s campaign rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital stated that Adebanjo and Afenifere are standing for justice and fairness by supporting him.
Obi said the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, and what its leader stands for today is what will make the future of Nigeria.
He said “Let me tell you what Ayo Adebanjo and Afenifere are standing for today is what will make the future of Nigeria. They are standing for equity; they are standing for justice, they are standing for fairness, and only equity, justice, and fairness will be the foundation of which we will build a united Nigeria.”
Adebanjo, who addressed the crowd briefly in Yoruba, at the rally appealed to them to not allow tribalism to influence their vote in the 2023 presidential election.
He said, “To those saying this one is Igbo, that one is Yoruba, the talk of president in Nigeria is not a talk of the Igbo or Yoruba but the talk of entire Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Adebanjo, who is said to be in Ibadan with Obi to show solidarity and support at the campaign rally held today never went back on his words to support Obi despite the crisis rocking the group’s leadership.
Since Adebanjo’s endorsement of the candidature of Obi for the 2023 presidential election, he has continually lauded his support for the Labour Party flag bearer.
The Afenifere leader was quoted to have said “It is no longer a tea party. Those who are there do not want to leave, but we will kick them out. I want your action, don’t let the opponents intimidate you.
“I have found in Peter Obi a person that would cool me down for a better tomorrow. Your future is in your hands, and your positive action will make Peter Obi the next President.”
