Nigeria U-17 defeat Galatasaray in pre-World Cup friendly

The Flamingoes defeated Galatasaray Ladies in a buildup to their World Cup participation in India

Nigeria female U-17 defeated Galatasaray Ladies on Saturday in a friendly match preparatory to their World Cup. The game was held in Kocaeli.

The Nigeria U-17 girls are in Turkey to prepare for their outing later this month in India where they’ve been grouped alongside United States, France and Canada.

Goals from star forward Opeyemi Ajakaye in the 26th-minute game gave the team the lead before Etim Edidiong’s 34th-minute effort doubled Nigeria’s lead.

Ebru Topliv pulled one back for Galatasaray in the 44th minute before Etim got her second of the afternoon in the 77th minute.

The Nigerian girls must have forgotten what it means to lose a game having maintained an unbeaten streak through their qualifiers to their preparatory games.

Coach Bankole Olowookere named a 21-player squad last week for the tournament with the top players of the team making the squad.
