Man Sets Self Ablaze In Osun, Alleges Abuse By His Wife Of Two Months
One Muritala Afolabi in Osun State is currently recuperating in the hospital after setting himself ablaze in an attempt to commit suicide, Omadaily reports.
The resident of Iree was said to have purchased some petrol from the fuel station, went into the bush last Friday and lit up his body.
Afolabi was, however, rescued by residents who heard him in agony while the fire was burning. The residents immediately rushed him to the hospital in Iree after seeing the degrees of injuries he had sustained.
Narrating his ordeal to The PUNCH from his sick bed on Sunday, Afolabi who revealed that he was a vulcaniser, said he decided to commit suicide after being subjected to emotional torture and frustration by his wife.
The 30-year-old artisan told the reporters that they got married in July 2022 and since then, the woman had been unfair to him with her insults and curses.
“I just thought of ending it. That Friday, I went into a filing station, bought fuel and went to a forest behind Baptist High School, Iree, and set myself ablaze.
“I thought of what I was passing through and it made me to decide to end my life. Poverty and repeated curses of my wife made me to lose hope. I married the woman just in July this year.
“Some people heard me when fire was burning my body and rushed to the scene. They rescued me and brought me to hospital,” the news platform quoted the victim as saying.
When contacted on the phone, Muritala’s wife, Ifedolapo, reportedly denied cursing her husband saying she doesn’t know why he decided to kill himself.
“I am his wife. I am yet to have any child for him,” she said.
